Powering sensors

Hi

I noticed that you suggest the D-Link device for POE capability. My current architecture includes a cisco 2900 series switch which is capable of providing POE and is already powering VOIP phones.
Would this be sufficient to power the device without need for an external supply?
Have you done any testing with this kind of hardware?

Re: Powering sensors

Hi Lee,

P85xx and Tx5xx devices aren't PoE ready right now. Because you MUST use PoE splitter for powering over Ethernet (like D-link, but you can use own splitter, passive splitter, etc.)

P85xx ... need +5V power supply - splitter with +5V output
Tx5xx ... need +12V power supply - splitter with +12V output

I don't have any information about Cisco 2900 switch series. Probably this switch is IEEE 802.3af compatible. If it is true, you can buy some PoE splitter (with right voltage output, and right power supply connector).
