DNS SMTP

I see some old references in the forum about firmware upgrades that will support DNS email servers.  I have a new P2520.  Looks like I need to bounce the alarm email through a public SMTP server for my client. (i.e. Gmail).  Is this doable?  Is there a tech document explaining how to configure it properly?

Re: DNS SMTP

A little more research says Gmail requires SSL (which you don't support).  Non SSL can go through aspmx.L.google.com, but it looks like only to other Gmail accounts?  Of course all this still doesn't solve my DNS mail server addy problem, but probably eliminates Gmail as option.  What are my options for bouncing through a public SMTP server?

Re: DNS SMTP

Hi Ditch37167,

You have right. DNS and SSL for SMTP server address are not supported by P2520 devices in present time. We have in our plans to implement DNS support. Exact time of firmware changes was not determined yet.

I am not sure, but I think Gmail without SSL is supported only with paid G Suite services.

If you want to use public SMTP server, you have this option(s):
- if you have computer which is running 24/7, you can use 3rd party software like a https://www.stunnel.org/index.html
- you can use our Database software - Comet Database. Trial version is available here: http://www.cometsystem.com/products/reg-CDB.
- alternatively you can use SMTP server from your ISP. Probably this server will not require SSL/TLS.
